Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to the questions families ask us most often. If you have a question that isn’t listed here, please reach out, we’re always here to help!

1. What areas do you serve?

We proudly serve Thunder Bay and nearby communities, including Port Arthur, Fort William, Westfort, Current River, Northwood, Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah, Neebing, Kakabeka Falls, Conmee, Kaministiquia, and surrounding rural areas within approximately 45 minutes of the city.

2. What types of services do you provide?

Aimor Home Care offers non-medical home care services including personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, mobility support, dementia and Alzheimer’s care, respite care for families, and post-hospital or post-surgery support. Whether you need a few hours a week or full-time assistance, we tailor care to your needs.

3. What does non-medical home care mean?

Non-medical home care refers to support with daily tasks and personal routines that help individuals remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home. This includes assistance with bathing, dressing, mobility, meal preparation, housekeeping, companionship, dementia support, and respite for family caregivers. Non-medical home care does not include nursing procedures, medical treatments, or clinical decision-making. Instead, it focuses on practical, day-to-day support that enhances quality of life and helps clients continue living confidently in their own homes.

4. How do you match caregivers with clients?

We take caregiver matching seriously. We learn about each client’s personality, preferences, routines, and comfort level—and we select a caregiver who is the best fit. Families can meet their caregiver before services begin, and we prioritize continuity by assigning the same caregiver whenever possible.

5. Are your caregivers certified and insured?

Yes. All Aimor caregivers are trained, screened, reference-checked, and insured. Our Personal Support Workers (PSWs) hold recognized certifications, and all staff receive ongoing guidance and supervision to ensure safe, high-quality care.

6. How does pricing work?

Pricing depends on the level of care and number of hours needed. We offer flexible hourly, daily, and extended-care options. Rates are competitive for Thunder Bay and will be reviewed with you during a free consultation so you can choose the best plan for your family.

7. Do you charge tax on home care services?

It depends on your situation.
• Yes, HST applies to most private-pay home care services in Ontario.
• No, HST is not charged if care is provided in addition to publicly funded PSW services through a government home care program.

If you’re unsure whether this applies to your family, we’re happy to clarify during your consultation.

8. Is there a minimum number of hours required?

Yes, we typically require a short minimum visit to ensure quality and safety for both clients and caregivers. Beyond that, care is flexible, whether you need occasional support, routine weekly visits, or full-time daily care.

9. Do you offer respite care for family caregivers?

Absolutely. We provide short-term and ongoing respite care so family caregivers can rest, work, or recharge. You can schedule respite care for a few hours, a full day, evenings, or overnight support.

10. Can Aimor help after a hospital discharge?

Yes. We regularly assist clients returning home after surgery, an injury, or hospital stay. Our caregivers help with settling in, meals, mobility, personal care, medication reminders, and follow-up appointments to ensure a safe, smooth transition home.

11. How quickly can services begin?

Many families can begin care within 24–72 hours, depending on caregiver availability and client needs. After your consultation, we begin the caregiver-matching process right away to ensure the best fit.

12. Are services available on evenings, weekends, or holidays?

Yes! We offer flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holiday coverage. Aimor is committed to supporting families whenever care is needed.
